**For the First Time ever in New Mexico, Animal Neurology Becomes Available to Pet Owners
Our new Neurology Department opens on February 15th! In the past, per owners in need of a veterinary neurologist would have to drive to Denver or Phoenix for a consult and treatment. Not any more! Our Santa Fe location will house the first ever veterinary neurologist in New Mexico. We welcome the addition of Scott J. Schatzberg, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Neurology) who will be heading up our new Neurology Department. Dr. Schatzberg

**Cause for Paws is here to help!
Cause for Paws is a new non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives and fighting economically-based euthanasia by funding critical veterinary care for sick and injured New Mexico pets whose owners cannot afford such care. Cause for Paws is in need of much-needed donations to help end the devestating choice between euthanasia or life. All too often pet owners are forced to euthanize their pet simply because they do not have the funds to pay for critical care that would normally save their pet's life. Won't you please help?!! Visit Cause for Paws by clicking here or by calling Lynda Stevens at 505-884-3433. All donations are fully tax-deductible. Thank you! www.causeforpawsnm.org

**Our MRI is here!
Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Centers now offers the only veterinary Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in New Mexico dedicated to small animals. Located at our Santa Fe facility, veterinarians in New Mexico and surrounding states can refer patients to us for this vital diagnostic study. An MRI uses a very strong magnetic field to align the natural spinning of water molecules within body tissues. MR images are formed by tiny radio frequency signals generated as the nuclei spin. The molecular alignment that occurs on the sub microscopic level cannot be felt and has no known harmful effects. The radio signals are collected by small antennae, called receiving coils, placed outside the patient near the area we are interested in evaluating. An advantage of the MRI is its ability to produce images that are simple cross-sections as well as from any other angle with equal resolution. MRI scans give the best soft tissue contrast of all the imaging modalities. VESC also offers computed axial tomography (CT) scans in our Albuquerque facility. To schedule or learn more about our MRI and our CT, please contact us at (505) 216-3351 or (505) 883-8387. You may also use our printable referral form.
