Meet Our Wonderful Medical Support Team

 

Andrea Vigil

Andrea Vigil is the Lead Surgery Technician of the Veterinary Surgical Specialists.  She has been with VESC for ten years.  Along with working within the surgery group, Andrea also runs the CT scanner.   Andrea has had extensive training in monitoring critical anesthesia, general anesthesia, and pain control of the post operative surgical patient. Communicating with the veterinarians in our community as well as educating our clients is a daily service that Andrea is always happy to provide.

Angela Harrell

Angela Harrell is a Lead Technician of the Albuquerque Animal Emergency Clinics.  She has worked in the veterinary field since 1998 and worked for VESC since February of 2001.  Angela is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Biology at UNM and plants to attend vet school in the near future.  She is especially interested in the stabilization and nursing care of critically injured and ill patients including traumatic injuries, metabolic diseases and parvo virus.   Angela has two young girls with her partner of 10 years, Billy.  Together, they have several furry and feathered creatures to round out the family. 

Melissa Prescott

Melissa Prescott is a Lead Veterinary Technician of the Albuquerque Animal Emergency Clinic.  She received her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology from Cedar Valley College in May 2010.  Melissa has worked in the veterinary field for over 16 years. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Don, and their 5-month-old baby named Jayden.   Her interests include snowboarding, and photography.   They also have a 7-year-old Boxer named Blaze.

 

Carol Macias

Carol Macias is a Registered Veterinary Technician, having graduated from the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in 2004.  In 2002, she earned two Associates Degrees: one in Liberal Arts and the other in Pre-Management from the Technical Vocational Institute of Albuquerque.  Carol worked for both small and large animal practices, focusing on general medicine, before joining Albuquerque Animal Emergency Clinic in 2009.  Carol is married, and she and her husband have a rambunctious four year old son, who is the light of their lives.  Carol has 2 dogs: “Kody Bear” and “Pachaco” (“Chaco”); and four cats: “Kisser”, “Sam” (“Fatty”/”Beanie”), and sisters “Cleopatra” (“Cleo”) and “Isis”.  In her spare time, Carol does scrapbooking, attends church where she sings in the choir, and professional photography. 

Mishelle Sarclette Rodriguez

Mishelle Sarclette Rodriguez grew up on a small farm in southern New Jersey before heading off to college near New York City.  She has been working in the veterinary field since 2005 and moved to Santa Fe in 2007. Mishelle's favorite aspects of her job include triage and the study of canine behavior. Mishelle is an advocate for "bully breeds" and believes that they are often severely misjudged. When she's not at work, Mishelle enjoys spending time with her new husband, DJ, their pit bull "Mickie" and their mixed breed dog "Philly CheeseSteak," both of whom were rescues. Her hobbies include photography, wine tasting, and reading.

Laura Schertler

Laura Schertler is a senior Registered Veterinary Technician at the Albuquerque Animal Emergency Clinic.  She received her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology.  Laura has worked in the veterinary field since 2005 and joined our emergency team in October 2006. Her special interests are neonatal medical care, critical care management, and emergency triage, and she hopes to pursue volunteer work in foreign third world countries.  Laura's outside interests include hiking, local entertainment, Bikram’s yoga, and traveling .  She is the proud parent of a boisterous 7 year old shepherd X, the “Ambassador Tobias Sebastian”; a sprightly bottle-fed tortoise shell cat, “Britney Spears”; a darling 12 year old cocker X, “Buffy”; and a cantankerous 13 year old poodle X, “Pebbles”.

Jessie Haney

Jessie came to VESCSF from Dallas, TX in September of 2009 to pursue her goal of learning the most progressive and state-of-the-art techniques in veterinary emergency and critical care.  She is proud to work for a clinic with such a high standard of care and such highly trained staff.  She has been working as a technician since 2006 and made the transition to emergency medicine in 2008.  Jessie is pursuing her undergraduate in Biology and plans to attend vet school and continue to work in the emergency and critical field.  Special interests of hers include infectious diseases, internal medicine and surgery, cardiology and neurology.

Jessie has two very demanding cats, two geriatric rats and a small, silly dog that bears a striking resemblance to a Jim Henson creature. Her hobbies and interests include playing rugby and soccer, acting and singing, and traveling whenever possible!

Jamie Meghan Herrera

Jamie Meghan Herrera is a senior at Pojoaque Valley High School.   She joined the SFAEC in 2010 as a Kennel Assistant.  When she graduates in June 2011, she plans to continue her education at UNM or CNM where she will enroll in a veterinary technician program while concurrently majoring in English. Jamie’s free time is spent between school and caring for/catering to her two dogs, (Tortilla the mutt and Topekachew the Maltese- Shi-Tzu) and five cats (Sammy the old man, Andi, Panda-Bear and her sister Munkey-Bear-Owl-Cat, and Turtle, the introvert who hides in drawers). Jamie is also co-owner of Tabitha the Ferret, who likes to chew on inappropriate things and slink down stairs. At school, Jamie is an active member of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and the Gay-Straight Alliance.

Suzanne Jackson

Suzanne Jackson has been serving the Santa Fe veterinary community as an RVT since 1991.  Her profession continues to excite and inspire her desire to refine her skills in step with the constant advancements in Veterinary Medicine.  She was trained at Bel-rea Institute of Animal Technology in Denver, Colorado. Immediately after graduation she began her career with Alameda East Veterinary Hospital, a 24-hour emergency/specialty practice, as Radiology Supervisor and Intern Supervisor.  Since that time she has worked in both mixed and small animal practices, was a founding member of Petroglyphs Magazine, and spent three years as Ranch Manager/Volunteer Coordinator for The Horse Shelter founded by Jan Bandler.  Suzanne joined VESC in April of 2008 as a technician for Veterinary Surgical Specialists.  In 2009, she transferred to the Emergency Practice.  And in 2011, she become lead technician for our Neurology Department.  She is also lead technician for the growing animal Blood Bank at VESC.  Suzanne has a strong interest in the human-animal bond and is in process of acquiring a Masters in Counseling with focus on Grief, Trauma and Loss in hopes of being better equipped to help human pet companions negotiate the shock and sadness of pet loss.  Outside work Suzanne enjoys "The Arts", outdoor activities, cooking, and being the willing servant of three remarkable feline companions.
